This is the story of a mountain climber who stumbled on a poor village in Pakistan after a failed attempt to climb K2. He was so moved by the kindness of the villagers that he promised to return there and build a school. This is the story of that promise and its outcome. Over the next decade, Mortenson built not one school, but fifty-five schools, emphasizing education for girls. All were located in the mountainous terrain that give rise to the Taliban. His story is an adventure as well as a testament to human kindness and humanitarianism.
