This textbook teaches how to to perform mechanical analysis of rivers, providing theory, analytical methods, practical engineering applications. Each chapter discusses principles and provides instructive problems, examples, and case studies which illustrate engineering analysis and design. Topical emphasis is placed on river dynamics, river bank stabilization, and river engineering. Additional chapters discuss methods for developing physical and mathematical models of rivers. It also provides background for understanding the mechanisms behind floods so that effective measures can be developed to reduce flood impact, prevent erosion, improve navigation, increase water supplies, and maintain stable and healthy aquatic habitats.
